Victoria Beckham in Big Shaker on NBC

Escondido, CA – (July 18, 2007) – As part of her introduction to life in America, Victoria Beckham was put through her paces in the BIG SHAKER, the world’s largest mobile earthquake simulator.

The Spice Girl was featured on NBC’s ‘Victoria Beckham Coming to America’ special. Victoria, her soccer star husband David Beckham and their three children have relocated to Los Angeles from Europe and as part of her orientation to southern California, Victoria was given a crash course in how to prepare for an earthquake by QuakeHold!, America’s leader in earthquake safety.

Victoria was shown what to do during an earthquake, including the ‘Drop, Cover and Hold On’ exercise that is commonplace throughout California. She was also given a hands-on demonstration of how to apply earthquake safety fasteners to furniture and appliances, as well as experiencing the BIG SHAKER.

“We cranked it up to about a 6.7 magnitude quake, the same as the 1994 Northridge Earthquake in Los Angeles,” said QuakeHold! CEO Dean Reese. “I don’t think Victoria really knew what to expect, and she looked a little shaken afterwards, but that’s the whole idea of the BIG SHAKER.

“It’s the most extreme, most realistic mobile earthquake simulator ever built. Our main objective is to demonstrate what an earthquake can feel like and show people what can happen to their household possessions if they’re not secured. I think Victoria now gets it.”

QuakeHold! has developed the BIG SHAKER as an educational tool that recreates varying degrees of earthquake intensity to demonstrate what can happen to the contents of a home in an earthquake if furniture, electronics and breakables are not secured.

The simulator is a 24’ long trailer that features a sophisticated hydraulic system specifically engineered to simulate varying degrees of earthquake intensity. It has been fitted out with furnishings to replicate a typical living room; some of the contents have been secured while others haven’t, and when the simulator shakes it recreates conditions similar to those that would be experienced in a home in an earthquake.
